I'm raising awareness and funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

Staying at an Outback Farm I witnessed first hand how important the work of RFDS is.

Visiting the Broken Hill RFDS Base was very impressive, too.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

Thank you for taking the time to read to the end and your support.

Cheers,

Doris

My Updates

200km in 19 days

Saturday 19th Oct
I'm quite proud of myself of having already walked 200km this month - what an achievement! The last two days I mainly walked in the rain, but now the sun is out again.
I will keep walking raising awareness for Royal Flying Doctor Service. Thanks for everyone's support so far...

Successful RFDS Challenge Day

Thursday 17th Oct
Started with a morning walk with my dear friend and met up with one of my team partners for a big long walk thereafter. We really challenged ourselves. I think tomorrow will be just an easy walk - who would guess that.
Thanks for the new donations! Every step counts - and I will go further. ;-)

Can I walk further?

Wednesday 16th Oct
More friends joined me for part of my walk. You don't notice as much how far you are going when you are chatting with a friend. Today, on my own, it was much hard -  mind you, I can feel the kms I have done...

Can you guess, where this picture was taken?

Bless to have Friends walking with me - Opal Town Coober Pedy

Monday 14th Oct
Thanks for another friend for coming along for a walk with me today.. It has been wonderful to catch up while doing a few ks.

Exercising in Nature is Therapy

Sunday 13th Oct
Thanks goes to my IGGSBEE team mate for walking Parkrun with me again on Saturday morning. Parkrun people are special as well as is their encouragement when they see us in our RFDS t-shirts.
Helping out at Junior Parkrun is close to my heart, too.
I fitted some walking before, after and around it and even spotted a little possum very close by licking the morning dew of the grass and herbs.

Grateful for some walking buddies

Thursday 10th Oct
Thank you to my friends who walked part of the way with me over the last tree days. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Every step counts.

Burke, Wills, King and Gray became the first Europeans to cross Australia south to north when they reached the Gulf of Carpentaria in February 1861. On their return to the south they (besides King) died at this vast country (Dig Tree).

Winterly Days returning

Wednesday 9th Oct
The last three days the winter tried to fight against spring with rainy cold weather, but after a crispy 2°C start this morning the sun came out and is warming up the earth again.
And I keep walking...
Have a look at some new photos at My Gallery: Broken Hill, where you could enjoy a RFDS Outback Heritage Experience...

Another successful Parkrun weekend

Sunday 6th Oct
Like RFDS Parkrun is a team effort. Thanks for all the encouragement and cheering we received for our walking challenge.

Outback town Birdsville, QLD

Friday 4th Oct
A few years ago all the roads to Birdsville, QLD, were flooded by Diamantina River when we dropped in for a visit.
The capital of Channel Country, Birdsville, is sitting on the edge of the Simpson Desert near corner country where the borders of QLD, SA and NT all meet.

The RFDS Ocean to Outback Challenge is on!

Tuesday 1st Oct
In the month of October I challenge myself to walk at least 96km (that's 1km for every year RFDS has provided life-saving healthcare). My aim is to raise more awareness and hopefully some needed funds for RFDS.
Please support me in any way you can. I would love to get some cheering on the way, join me for a walk or donate some money if you can. Just spread the word - every little bit helps.
Starting my "virtual" part of the walk at the ocean. Can you guess where this photo was taken?
Some more will be posted in My Gallery.
So please feel free to drop in for an update during October.

Sharing my Luck

Tuesday 17th Sep
Happy peaceful morning walk.
Look what I've found!

'Dancing with the Cockatoo'

Monday 16th Sep
Relaxing walk through a close-by wildlife corridor - always lots of birds around there...

Heavy Rain & Sunshine

Sunday 15th Sep
Another weekend of Parkrun and walking in heavy rain and sunshine added to the challenge.

At a Wildlife Corridor

Monday 9th Sep
Walking along a small river in a wildlife corridor is a pleasant start of the week. The Kookaburra enjoyed sitting in the sun close by.
Thank you to all my (financial) supports. That's so wonderful to have you.

Sunny Parkrun Weekend

Sunday 8th Sep
I love my Parkruns - mind you - I'm not a runner, but just a "fast" walker. Volunteering as Parkwalker is one of my favourite roles as there is not only the chance to promote that you can also walk and take your time at Parkrun, but also gives the opportunity to chat to fellow walkers even if you are shy.
At Sunday's Junior Parkrun I acted as Warm Up Leader this time. Then I continued for a sunny walk afterwards. This park has lots of kangaroos, but this time I was lucky to see a wombat. How exciting!

Windy morning walk

Friday 6th Sep
Due to strong winds I decided to walk a safer, but hilly suburban route today. For early September it was with 21°C a very warm (10°C above average) early morning.
I'm thrilled not only to clock some more practice kilometres, but also having received some generous donations. Thanks a lot - that made my day and it is for a good cause!

First Practice Walks

Thursday 5th Sep
The last two days I started recording my practice walks. I haven't gone as far as I hoped yet, but doing it mindfully - think about RFDS and what great work they do.
I hope, I can raise awareness in my friendship group.
Stay tuned - you might get treated to some of our trip photos...
