Rfds and mental health services
Did you know each year, approximately one in five, or 960,000, rural and remote Australians experience a mental illness. While data suggests the rates are similar in major cities, the accessibility of mental health services dramatically differs in rural and remote areas. Farmers, young men, the elderly and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are at the highest risk of suicide and self-harm, making the RFDS services in Queensland vital. The qld RFDS section delivers more than 12,100 mental health consultation annually and has the largest mental health service of RFDS sections across Australia. The clinicians operate in areas as remote as Lockhart River in the Cape York and all the way to Camooweal on the Northern Territory Border.We're fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, we're taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, we hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
