I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

So far this year

RFDS got our friend to the care he needed!

Sunday 15th Sep
RFDS has recently flown one our friends from Rockhampton to Brisbane after he had a terrible motorcycle accident.

On Monday 2nd of September (just under 2 weeks ago), with the help of the Queensland Ambulance Service, they got him from the Rockhampton Base Hospital to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) so that he could receive major surgery to repair his severely broken pelvis and extensively damaged face.

On Tuesday 10th September, due to him still being largely bed-bound (and therefore unable to catch a commercial flight), they bought him back to Rockhampton Base Hospital so that he can continue his rehabilitation close to his family and friends.

We are so thankful for the Royal Flying Doctor Service XXxx

My shirt arrived!

Saturday 7th Sep
My Oceans to Outback shirt arrived!

Here I go again!

Monday 26th Aug
As most of you will remember by my relentless spamming, I completed Darkness to Daylight for Challenge DV in May this year. Whilst raising funds I also improved my fitness which was a big plus as I find it difficult to put aside the time (and find the motivation) for something that’s “just for me”.

I have since undone all my good work by once again falling into the bad habit of not exercising.  Not ideal when I’m in my 40’s, work permanent night shift in a sedentary role and have a cholesterol level that sees my cardiologist wanting to put me on medication (which I refuse to do).

One thing I know about myself is that I am more than happy to do things for other people rather than myself so I figure signing up for RFDS’s Oceans to Outback was a win win.. It’ll motivate me to exercise again (as it’s for someone else, not me) and it will also raise money for a crucial service. RFDS is close to my heart. When I was living remotely, every member of my family at some time or other was “flown out” by RFDS. RFDS also flew a good Mate from Rockhampton to Brisbane in an effort to save his life after a terrible accident.

Folks, any one of us could need this life saving service at some time or other so…if you have a few dollars spare…please consider donating. Or why not join me…
