I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

As most of our family and friends are aware Mark and I have spent a great deal of time travelling and living in rural and remote areas of Australia.

Australia has some incredible places but unfortunately not all places have access to immediate health care when and if needed.

During our travels we have lived in some locations where, without the support of the RFDS people needing medical assistance would face over an 8 hour drive to get care, a potential matter of life and death.

In our time in remote locations we have called on the services of the RFDS many times. Sometimes it was for essential medications to prevent the worsening of illness, other times to have the RFDS doctors talk you through a situation with a patient and other times was organising to have a patient air-lifted out for urgent medical treatment. These doctors are contactable at any hour and their care and follow up is second to none.

The same goes for the pilots and the flight crew. It doesn't matter what hour we needed assistance the RFDS was there to support. Our own stories along with others from areas we have lived sound unbelievable. And I am so grateful to know they are there when needed.

It is for these reasons that Mark and I are taking on a month-long fitness challenge in October to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

The picture I have included is of the airstrip on the Mitchell Plateau. It can get flooded in the wet, fires in the dry, it isn't always accessible and during the wet season is the only connection to the outside world. It is also the airstrip that the RFDS pilots navigate in all hours of the night and day to support the sick and injured.

So far this year
