Help me raise vital funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service!
Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate medical care is often a challenge. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.
This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!
But, there's so much more to what the RFDS provides to those living in remote areas. Our visit to the RFDS visitor centre in Charleville earlier this year refreshed my appreciation for all the ongoing support that the RFDS provides.
Here's just one example ..... did you know there are 1,300 lockable Medical Chests in the hands of RFDS Medical Chest holders (in rural homes, cattle stations, mine sites, fishing vessels etc) across Queensland?? These medical chests were introduced over 80 years ago. Each chest serves a household, station or community of up to 30 people. Each chest holds medications and first aid supplies to treat a range of health conditions. The chest can only be used by calling the Flying Doctor, who assesses the patient's needs, and provides instructions for using the relevant items.
