I'm fundraising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service

Those close to us will know that my lovely wife, Ilse, has had 2 emergency hospital admissions in the last 12 months, both requiring multiple vehicle paramedics, flashy lights, sirens etc etc. These episodes were immediately life-threatening and only prompt paramedic attention averted disaster.

Refusing to be defined or restricted by these episodes, Ilse (characteristically) elected that we should set off in our new caravan to the Mundi Mundi Bash, a music festival near Broken Hill. This was a 3,600 km round trip and involved travelling through and staying in some very remote areas, often with medical support several hours away on dodgy roads. You will understand that the idea that the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) was available in the background to provide support in these areas was a huge reassurance to us both. Fortunately all was well and their services were not required 😅.

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

This experience really brought home to us how vitally important the RFDS is to rural Australian communities, and I want to use the Oceans to Outback fundraiser to make a small contribution towards this amazing cause. Secure donations can be made through this page if you would like to support the RFDS.

The Oceans to Outback fundraiser is a month-long fitness challenge this October.

Walking 91km in a month is not a huge feat on my part, but I have to be realistic as I am rehabilitating a dodgy knee.

Thanks for any support you feel you may be able to give.
